In spring 2011, BeWellUSC was created as the Division of Student Affairs brand for all health and wellness programming for students on the University Park Campus. The Office for Wellness and Health Promotion was asked to lead partnerships with other Student Affairs offices, as well as other departments on campus, to collaborate on wellness-related programming and messages. Therefore, BeWellUSC is not only a unifying brand, but it also encompasses a series of initiatives aimed at promoting health and reducing risk among students. With the support of staff, faculty, and students, the brand will become a mainstay at USC, signifying the university’s commitment to student wellness.
BeWellUSC utilizes the World Health Organization’s definition of wellness: “The optimal state of health of individuals and groups… the realization of the fullest potential of an individual physically, psychologically, socially, spiritually, and economically… the fulfillment of one’s role expectations in the family, community, place of worship, workplace, and other settings.” Based on this meaning, initiatives will recognize the following eight dimensions of wellness: social, occupational, spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, environmental, and financial.
