Friends & Neighbors Service Days

The USC Volunteer Center 's Friends and Neighbors Days program is one of our most popular. These one day service events take place on Saturdays throughout the school year and provide a great opportunity to meet fellow students as well as get involved in the surrounding community.

This year we will hold events on these dates (click to the date to read more):

Saturday, August 23, 2008   (Signup between 7/25/2007-8/22/2008)
Join us for the Friends and Neighbors Day, the Volunteer Center's largest community service event! Meet in Alumni Park and enjoy a light breakfast with your team leaders who will provide an overview of the day’s projects. After brief remarks, as many as 600 students will be sent to over 35 service sites throughout the Los Angeles area to do hands-on work with local community organizations. All USC students, alumni, faculty and staff are invited to attend these events!

Saturday, November 22, 2008   (Signup between 10/17/2008-11/21/2008)
The November Friends and Neighbors Service Day takes place during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. Projects are geared to serve the impoverished men, women, and children of Los Angeles through food deliveries, donation assembly, and fundraising. Whether volunteers choose to register as part of a service team, work with faculty as part of SCitizen, or become a Service Mentor on a project with high school students, they will gain a deeper understanding of the broader social issues inflicting thousands of Los Angelenos.

Saturday, January 24, 2009   (Signup between 1/14/2009-1/23/2009)
Our first spring Service Day is focused on Friendly Visiting, intended to help individuals maintain social interaction with the community and help relieve loneliness. Volunteers will visit with seniors at residence homes, patients at nearby hospitals, or animals at local shelters to play games, read, help with projects, go on walks, or just chat.

Saturday, February 28, 2009   (Signup between 2/3/2009-2/27/2009)
Join us for the last Service Day of the semester! Projects range from tutoring youth to gardening and beach clean-ups. All volunteers will work side by side with local high school students.

Saturday, March 28, 2009   (Signup between 3/7/2008-3/29/2008)
Eggster will include festivities such as egg hunts, carnival rides, live entertainment, learning booths, free good and fun games! We need volunteers to help staff our arts and crafts booths and game booths!
