If the conditions are right, you might be able to see the landscape of Catalina Island from the PCH. While just 20 miles away from Los Angeles, Catalina Island is a world of its own — with brilliantly blue water and diverse plant and animal life. But not even this island oasis can escape the threats to the land and seas that seem to grow all the more prevalent.
Students will partner with the staff and faculty of the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies and head to USC’s other, other campus in an effort promote conservation and raise the student body’s awareness of this “living laboratory.”
A new trip to the Alternative Break program, plans are in the works for student participants to begin forging a new set of trails on the Wrigley campus as well as create a native garden with the aid of the Catalina Island Conservancy. With the incredible resources provided by the Wrigley Institute, students will be able to snorkel in a marine reserve, kayak at sunset, and work alongside researchers at the forefront of their field.
All majors are welcome, and we encourage those who want to change their perspectives and begin saving the world to apply!
