Named during the Gold-Rush era, Death Valley loomed as a near-impossible challenge to early pioneers. Today, however, humans pose an even greater threat to the Valley’s ecosystem than it does to us. If you have never been to Death Valley and experienced its grand scale and natural beauty, then why not go there with an Alternative Spring Break trip? Participants camp out in the desert valley for one week and can expect a lot out of this trip. Not only will you be doing hard work to help preserve Death Valley’s delicate ecosystem, but along the way you will learn things about the park, yourself, and your fellow teammates. Some of the projects that have been done in previous years include…
* Removing invasive plant species
* Building firebreaks around park structures
* Clearing brush and improving historical sites
* Constructing hiking trails and campgrounds
* Restoring desert habitats
This trip is not for the faint of heart. We will be doing some difficult projects out in the park and camping in extremes from 90 degrees during the day, to 40 degrees at night. We also eat a vegetarian diet during the entire trip, a tradition that has carried on throughout the Death Valley trip’s existence. Do not, however, let this scare you away. We love to take everyone and anyone on this trip that is willing to learn and do their part to preserve Death Valley’s unique environment. And camping experience isn’t even necessary!
Some sites we visited last year…
* Furnace Creek
* Breakfast Canyon
* Wildrose Campground and
Wildrose Peak
* Zabriskie Point
* Artist’s Drive
* Copper Canyon
* Badwater Basin
* Ballarat Ghost Town
* Plus many, many more!
