Alternative Winter Break - Alternative Winter Break Peru

The heart of South American civilization lives on in a rich indigenous culture set amidst stunning natural views, but beyond the beauty lies a stark reality. Despite recent economic growth, 50% of Peruvians live in poverty with almost 25% living on less than $2 a day. When an 8.0M earthquake struck the southern part of the country, the situation became more bleak. There is still much rebuilding that needs to be done.

While in Peru, we will immerse ourselves in Andean culture, likely working in indigenous communities of Huancayo outside of Lima and Urabamaba outside Peru. With a focus on community development, we will be working on a wide variety of projects. We will likely be sweating over construction and beautification projects, so you will be able to look back on your trip and see some concrete accomplishments, while making personal connections with the locals, working in local orphanages and community centers.

Apply to AWB Peru for the chance to experience local Peruvian culture, make lasting connections with other SC students, and make a visible difference in a community set in the majestic Andes Mountains.
