Navajo Nation (Bluff, Utah): Cultural Awareness and Exchange
Ya at' eeh (Hello!)
Students will spend the week volunteering in the Navajo Nation near Bluff, Utah. The focus of our trip is community service that promotes awareness of the Navajo culture, its traditions and its people by participating in hands-on experiences and gaining insight into and an understanding of the lives of contemporary Native Americans through conversations, reflection and ritual ceremonies.
The week of spring break we’ll spend our days doing service on the rez, our afternoons exploring the backcountry and culture of the Four Corners region, and our evenings sleeping in the local high school auditorium.
The goal of ASB Navajo Nation, the longest-running ASB trip, is to immerse students within the Navajo culture and compel them to explore the challenges and rewards of preserving identity in a rapidly changing world.
