The vision of the USC Volunteer Center is to produce new generations of effective leaders who are both educated and experienced in taking responsibility for and being involved in their communities. In every way, the Volunteer Center encourages participants to apply their experience and knowledge to not only the USC and greater Los Angeles communities but throughout the world.
Alternative Breaks are a special part of the Volunteer Center, because we are able to create a unique learning environment by taking a group of students, staff and faculty to a location and immersing them in a pressing social issue, community, and culture. It is our belief, and studies have shown, that trips such as these help students make tangible connections between what they learn in the classroom and what they will encounter once they have jobs and experiences outside the university setting. In addition, these trips have allowed the Volunteer Center to create valuable, long-lasting relationships in the communities in which we work.
