A Community Place
A Community Place is a student run organization at USC that aims to provide healthy sack lunches, bus tokens, taxi vouchers, and referrals to the homeless, working poor, children, and elderly that live in the downtown Los Angeles communities surrounding USC. The general purpose of ACP is to be an organization where USC students can engage in community service, learn about the community that surrounds USC, and explore issues such as poverty and food scarcity by volunteering during our weekly lunch-packing event and bi-weekly food distribution events. Lunch-packing will be held every Thursday evening, from 5-6 pm, at St. Mark's Church (across Gate 6). During lunch-packing, student volunteers assemble lunches for an estimated 300 clients to pick up each week. Our aim for lunch-packing is to create a relaxed social environment for undergraduate and graduate students as well as any interested staff to socialize and share their common interests in community service. Food distributions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 8:30-10:15 am and 12:00-2:00 pm respectively. During distribution, our student volunteers hand out the packed lunches in addition to juices and canned items for our clients. Our main purpose of distribution is for our student volunteers to interact with our clients, many of whom have been relying on ACP resources for the past 15 years.

If you're wondering, "Who is in Alpha Phi Omega?" the quick answer is, everybody. At the University of Southern California, we have a very diverse mix of members — men and women; business, pre-med, and engineering majors; and even a couple of graduate students. This diversity allows you to meet new and interesting people, but also to meet people who might be in a couple of your classes. On campus, Alpha Phi Omega has helped support many local events such as Friends and Neighbors Day, Spirits at Troy, Swim with Mike, and numerous fundraising drives. In the past, Alpha Phi Omega has also held fundraisers for elementary schools with programs like the 4-square tournament, and older fundraisers such as the Ugly Man contest, dressing men up as women and raising the most money for being, well, ugly! Off campus, Alpha Phi Omega's impact on the community is unrivaled by any other group. Inner-city gardening programs, beach cleanups, highway cleanups, Reading to Kids, and Habitat for Humanity are only a few of the many diverse programs in which Alpha Phi Omega is involved. In fact, many members choose to exceed the 25-hour minimum requirement for service hours, with special awards for 50 and 100 service hours in a semester.

USC Association for Clinical Experience
Lots of pre-health students volunteer in hospitals and emergency rooms, but few understand anything about the clinical conditions they encounter while they volunteer. Just the tiniest bit of basic clinical knowledge can make a huge difference in the quality of the volunteer experience. About once per month, we meet on the undergrad campus. There's a 20 minute medical student lecture followed by 20 minute lectures given by the physicians. We focus on things that we feel will be useful knowledge for an emergency room volunteer. Dr. Kim Newton is a ER attending and is our faculty mentor. She is extremely involved in the club and a great resource, especially if you are thinking about doing emergency medicine. This is a great (and fairly easy) way to get to know some very amazing emergency medicine attendings, work on your presentation skills, mentor undergraduate pre-meds, and even learn a few clinical pearls yourself.

Will Work For Food
WILL WORK FOR FOOD gives people a unique opportunity to solve a global problem by taking action locally. Participants volunteer in their own communities and ask friends and family to sponsor this work with a donation. The money raised helps fight child malnutrition abroad. Realizing that our lives are removed from the daily happenings of malnourished children, we wanted to give people an opportunity to help their own communities (something we're all more familiar with) while raising relief funds to save these malnourished kids. And so came our "volunteering locally to save children globally" initiative. We encourage our "Workers" to do some kind of local community service work and to then ask friends and family to "sponsor" this work with a donation to WILL WORK FOR FOOD. One-hundred percent of the money raised helps our affiliate organization, Doctors Without Borders, purchase and distribute lifesaving nutritional supplements to severely malnourished children.
