Renowned author Aimee Bender (The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake) and esteemed composer John B Hedges will present A Shipwreck Opera, winner of the Long Leaf Opera's one-act opera competition. Powerful and touching, this unique and surprising work begins with a shipwreck that leaves a baby girl alone on an island. Music by the Definiens Project. Co-sponsored by the Office for Residential Education. Ms. Bender and Mr. Hedges will also lead a pre-performance discussion of the work.
Synopsis:
A one-act opera about a shipwreck that leaves a baby girl alone on an island. She is raised and loved by a tree, and as she grows forms relationships with the wind and the sea and another human who happens to come by. A story about family and growing up for all ages; winner of the Long Leaf Opera's one-act opera competition.
