· Why isn’t there more equipment in the cardiovascular room?
Purchasing decisions are reviewed each year and priority is allocated based on need. Expenses for the facilities and equipment for which Recreational Sports is responsible are numerous, not to mention costly. Equipment for the Lyon Center (cardiovascular and weight rooms) is purchased as funding becomes available.

· How can I get into the Lyon Center if I forgot my ID?
Students can gain access into the Lyon Center without their ID. If they forgot their ID, they can pay the $10.00 daily guest fee and bring their valid student ID the next day to get a full refund. If the student has lost their ID, they need to report it to DPS who in turn will give them a letter which along with a picture ID can be used to gain access into the Lyon Center.

· Do you have a speed bag and a heavy punching bag?
Yes! Brought to you by popular demand (but not so popular with the squash players) RecSports converted one of the squash courts into a multipurpose room with punching bag, speed bag, and heavy bag. Additional stretching mats and workout equipment have been added to the room.

· How do I sign up for intramural sports?
In person or on line or come to the Lyon Center, fill out an entry form, and submit it with respective entry fee before the entry deadline. Application forms and entry deadlines are posted on this site. Free Agents may sign up and RecSports will try to place you on a team however Free Agents are required to attend captains meetings.

· Who controls the music in the building and the weightroom?
Recreational Sports allows the student-staff to choose the music that is piped in through the Lyon Center. There are a few radio stations that Recreational Sports staff has identified as not suitable for playing in public areas - 98.7, 100.3, 102.7, 105.9, and 106.7.

· How do I know which instructor is teaching which aerobics class?
The class schedule is posted, but the instructor schedule is not. You can attend the class and ask the instructor what other classes he/she is teaching.

· What's going on with broken equipment in the weightroom and cardiovascular area?
Currently, RecSports has student staff to repair some equipment. As patrons and other staff members bring it to our attention, the maintenance staff is informed and appropriate measures are taken to fix the equipment. Rec Sports maintains a limited inventory of parts. Some equipment cannot be fixed until the part(s) are shipped from the company.

· How do I apply for a job with Rec Sports?
Most jobs at RecSports prefer work-study (CWSP) applicants. Applications are available on line and at the Lyon Center. Jobs at RecSports include lifeguards, office support staff, equipment room staff, facility supervisors, youth program counselors and sport instructors, aerobic instructors, intramural officials and referees, and personal trainers.

· How do I reserve a tennis or racquetball court?
By phone, in person, or call (213) 740-8977 and reserve a court. You can reserve a court up to 2 days in advance. Reservations are only 1 hour, 1 court, per day. Tennis courts for recreational use are on a first come, first serve basis during daylight hours only. Marks Tennis Stadium is reserved for the USC Tennis Varsity teams. Courts are lighted in the evenings for Tennis Club only.

· Why doesn't the Lyon Center have fast, medium, and slow lanes?
There are too many levels of swimmers for just three designations- we have everyone from Olympic athletes to beginners. If there are empty lanes, people will swim in them- regardless of the speed designation. We don't want to offend someone who may think they're a fast swimmer, but they're not the fastest in the pool.

· What are some suggestions for swimming during peak hours?
• Swim with people who are of similar ability.
• Bring a friend to share the lane. Or make a new friend who’s the same speed as you are.
• If you are water jogging or a beginner, use the small lane closest to the lifeguard.
• Ask the lifeguards for help finding a lane or how to “circle swim” correctly.
• Try the PE pool- open 12-1 PM (M-F) and 5-6 PM (M-Th). This pool is less crowded especially in the evening.
PE pool fee $20/semester.
• Join Masters- Swim with a coach in specially designated lanes. For more info: www.SWIM.net/SCAQ
