Andrew Bird

8:00:00 PM -10:00:00 PM
Bovard

Few are able to categorize the sounds of rising indie-folk sensation Andrew Bird. A native of Illinois, Bird is an accomplished singer-songwriter, violinist and guitarist additionally known for his other signature talents from whistling to playing glockenspiel. He’s what every independent music artist strives to be—a musician with a truly unique sound who has earned the enthusiasm and respect of each fan one at a time and is now growing into a musical phenomenon. Trained by the Suzuki method from a young age and a graduate of Illinois’ Northwestern University, Bird released his first solo album, Music of Hair, in 1996. In the midst of the swing craze that swept the United States music industry in the mid ‘90s, Andrew Bird got his start doing collaborative work with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers. He then moved on to take the role of band leader in 1997 with his group Bowl of Fire, releasing three albums: Thrills, Oh! The Grandeur and The Swimming Hour, before disbanding in 2003. His early work, which echoed gypsy jazz, blues, swing and traditional folk, has led into his current sound, which mixes rock with more broad compositions. His years of solo song-craft have now enabled him to produce a sound that is his own. Bird then released two subsequent solo albums, Weather Systems(2003) and The Mysterious Production of Eggs (2005), both distributed through the label operated by Ani DiFranco, Righteous Babe Records. He switched to Fat Possum for 2007's Armchair Apocrypha and 2009's Noble Beast. Having already performed in a variety of venues, from major music festivals such as: Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo to barns, churches and grand theatres, USC Spectrum welcomes Andrew Bird in his first performance at USC’s Bovard Auditorium. TICKETS: General Admission - $50, USC Faculty/Staff - $30, USC Student with ID - $20, General Admission tickets are available only as a guest of USC Student, Faculty or Staff.
