Placement Tests at USC
The USC Testing Bureau administers placement tests for undergraduate students in mathematics and foreign language to ensure that you are advised properly and enroll at the appropriate level to begin your studies. In addition, placement tests help fulfill some skill level requirements.
Placement Tests are offered in two different formats: online and via paper and pencil. The online option is only available for incoming undergraduate students who attend an orientation session. Students may choose to take the paper and pencil version on site at the USC Testing Bureau. For a list of test dates, visit the USC Testing Bureau website or call 213.740.7166.
Placement tests in mathematics and foreign language are completed through your Pre-Orientation Homework online prior to your orientation session. You must complete your Pre-Orientation Homework 72 hours prior to your session. The Writing Composition Test is offered during your orientation session (freshman sessions only).
