What is the Thanksgiving Match-Up Program?
The Thanksgiving Match-Up program gives USC international students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to celebrate the Thanksgiving Day holiday with an American host family in and around the Los Angeles area. This year, Thanksgiving falls on November 24, 2011.
This program is a wonderful opportunity for both international students and host family members to learn more about each others’ cultures. It is a great way for international students to learn firsthand about American culture, and spend time with an American family. Many students and host families are returning participants each year!
How it Works
In November, the Thanksgiving Match-Up International Program Assistant (IPA) will match students with host families. Due to the high number of participants in this program, host families and students will be notified of matches approximately a week before Thanksgiving Day.
Once matched, OIS will inform students and host families of their matches and will provide each others’ contact information. The students and host families should communicate with each other to finalize details for the holiday. Students will then be ready to visit the host family’s home and share the deliciously prepared meal on Thanksgiving Day. Host families are not required to provide overnight accommodations for students. Transportation is most often provided by the host family, but occasionally a student must provide his or her own transportation.
