Getting Around
Many international students without cars use bikes, USC tram buses and LA metro transportation to get around the nearby area of USC’s University Park Campus (UPC). This section guides international students to some of the main venues for shopping, entertainment and sightseeing along with possible Los Angeles Metro transportation options. Google Maps can be used to obtain directions and search for service locations. The name of the venue/store can be entered into Google maps with the main campus zip code (90089) to see what locations are nearby. Also, most store websites have a “store locator” information section with addresses and hours of operation.
On Exposition Avenue runs the Metro Expo Rail Line which goes directly into a main connect hub called 7th St/Metro Center. You can access both the Metro Red Line that goes to Union Station here, as well as Blue Line to Long Beach. Metro trains cost $1.50 each way. On the map the Expo line is a light blue and originates in Culver City: Rail Map
The two bus lines near UPC are the DASH F which costs $0.50 each way and Metro buses which cost $1.50 each way. The DASH F has stops on the south and north sides of campus and the Metro buses 81 and 200 have stops along Figueroa on the east side of campus.
Due to the urban nature of the larger area around USC, students who are visiting venues not right near campus should bike, drive or take a bus and use extra caution at night.
The DASH F also stops at the intersection of 7th and Figueroa downtown where there is access to the Metro train systems Red and Blue Lines. The Red Line goes east to Union Station and west to Hollywood and Universal Studios. The Blue Line runs south to Long Beach.
Students should review additional information on transportation options on OIS website.
