Men CARE offers workshops to any USC student organization. Driven by leading academic research, the workshops are intended for all-male audiences. The USC Center for Women & Men offers separate but related workshops for female audiences. Men CARE asks that organizations commit to having one workshop per semester.
To schedule a presentation, please contact Todd Henneman, program director, at henneman@usc.edu or Steven Philp, the student organization’s president, at gaughan@usc.edu.
Man to Man: This introductory workshop facilitates candid conversations about the role of bystanders, clarifies the differences between “sex” and “sexual assault,” explains ways to ask for consent, explores empathy, and introduces techniques to make a personal difference in our campus community.
Take a Stand: Men CARE’s flagship workshop, developed in fall 2006, explores how bystanders may intervene if they spot questionable social situations. Participants discuss real-world scenarios and brainstorm possible interventions that they could take as bystanders. Students develop a menu of strategies, leaving the workshop better equipped to navigate social situations and intervene if they spot red flags.
Helping Friends: Intended only for audiences who completed the first two workshop, this discussion focuses on helping friends and loved ones who have experienced sexual violence, including rape or childhood sexual abuse.
COMING IN 2009
Creating Healthy Relationships: This new workshop will look at the continuum of healthy to abusive relationships and explore tools for sustaining healthy ones.
