In 2005, The LGBT Resource Center sponsored the first Black QueerStory that addressed the intersection of ethnic and sexual identities within the Black Community. In collaboration with the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs, the Black Student Assembly, the Queer & Ally Student Assembly and local non-profit organizations, the QueerStory presented historical information, current facts and speculation about inclusion for the Black gay community in the future.
Since then, the center has continued to work with its cultural center counterparts that include Asian Pacific American Student Services, the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs, and El Centro Chicano to sponsor annual QueerStory panel discussions, performances, and films that address the intersection of ethnicity, sexuality and gender identity/expression. Primarily sponsored in the spring semester, the QueerStory Series continues to be a favorite with students, staff and faculty. The Queer & Ally Student Assembly (QuASA) is also a major co-sponsor for these events.
