Greek Chat

 

Greek Chat is a confidential support group for out, closeted, and questioning students in Fraternities and Sororities that meets twice a month.  It is facilitated by current and openly gay/lesbian/bisexual members of the Greek community and the meeting locations are confidential.  Greek Chat is an opportunity to discuss freely and in a safe environment some challenges and rewards being LGBT and Greek. 

Possible discussion topics may include: alumni discussion about reconciling being out or closeted in the house, inter-house romance or potential romances, homophobia in the house, determining who to trust in the house, and how to tell people in the house.

Spring 2012 Meetings (twice a month):

  • Wednesday, February 22 at 8 pm at VKC 160
  • Wednesday, March 7 at 8 pm at VKC 160
  • Tuesday, March 20 at 6 pm at VKC 160
  • Wednesday, April 4 at 8 pm at VKC 161
  • Tuesday, April 17 at 6 pm at VKC 161

The goals for this group are three-fold:

  • Students will understand how Greek members have succeeded in the incorporation of their sexual orientation with their Greek affiliations
  • Students will disclose personal challenges they have experienced with members from within their Greek affiliations
  • Students will develop inventions strategies on how to confront homophobia within their houses
