“Come Out As An Ally” for National Coming Out Day (October 11).
The USC Ally Project (est. 2010) is a virtual opportunity for supportive allies to proclaim their support for the LGBT Community on facebook on October 11 - National Coming Out Day. It is.sponsored by the LGBT Resource Center.
The Ally Project invites students, staff, faculty and alumni to declare their support for the USC LGBT Community by taking a picture holding a sign saying, “I Am An Ally” and uploading it onto facebook on October 11. Last year, 1,000+ USC community members participated. For 2013, we are asking allies to include an action statement on how they plan to become a better ally (e.g., attend LGBT student organization or learn about LGBT history, etc.).
How to participate:
- Take a picture of yourself holding a sign stating, “I Am An Ally.” The sign can be typed on a computer, or you can display your artistic side, so long as the message is clear! If you are LGB identified, you can be an ally for the transgender community and vice versa. Insert an action statement below your proclamation.
- Upload this picture on the facebook event site: http://www.facebook.com/AllyProjectUSC, or your personal twitter/instagram using #USCAllyProject
- Upload this picture as your facebook profile picture on National Coming Out Day on October 11 to show your support to the LGBT Community and those people that have decided to come out as LGBT on this day.
