The purpose of the Series is to create a greater sense of community by introducing students to faculty from various disciplines to discuss important themes impacting the black community locally and globally. Students will explore ideas, concepts, historical and current events that will challenge students to shift from cultural knowledge to cultural competence.
Our first speaker of the semester will be Mrs. Natasha Mmeje, a health educator from Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She will lead an important discussion on health issues that affect young African Americans.

Chaka Kahn Tutoring Program: Orientation Meeting

We are looking for the best of the best of USC students to help in making an impact on middle school aged minority students. The Chaka Kahn Foundation and USC Black Alumni Association has partnered up to offer tutoring services to Charles Drew Middle School children. We are looking for USC students, graduate or undergraduate, that would be able to dedicate to a Monday and/or Wednesday 4:30pm-6:30pm on campus to help tutor students in English and math. Lessons will already be provided, all that is needed is for you to show up with a great attitude and the desire to help these students.
If you are able to participate in this effort to make a difference in the lives of these students, please come to the first orientation taking place, Monday, September 28, 2009 at 6pm in THH please contact Kari Enge at: enge@usc.edu. A stipend will be given to each tutor for each semester of dedication. More information will be given at the first orientation meeting: September 28, 2009 at 6pm in THH 116.
