Visions and Voices: African Renaissance: Connecting Cultures thru Musical Journeys
Bovard
7:30pm-
A nation in transformation, South Africa survived centuries of colonization and began a triumphant renaissance of cultures previously oppressed. This concert will celebrate the connections being made by musicians of diverse cultures, taking new musical journeys that integrate traditional and contemporary ensembles and styles. Acclaimed South African musicians Selaelo Selota, Dizu Plaatjies and Xolani Gongxeka will join with USC student ensembles to explore glorious choral harmonies, powerful African rhythms and sensual jazz in a colorful combination of music, costume and dance. John Thomas will direct the USC Thornton Concert Jazz Band, with Megan Solomon leading the Concert Choir. They will perform collaborative compositions by the South African guest artists together with University of Cape Town professor Willie Haubrich and South African composer Peter Louis Van Dijk. A multimedia presentation by Sheila Woodward will offer contextual illustration for each performance. www.usc.edu/visionsandvoices

Mixed and Match Concert and Bone Marrow Drive
Ground Zero Cafe
7pm-11pm
Did You Know?
Finding donors for multiracial lukemia patients is difficult because two people are most likely to be a match if they are of the same race/ethnicity. Racial minorties make up only 30% of the national registry and multiracials account for less than 2%. You can increase the chances of someone finding a match by spreading the word and registering at this event!
