AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL CELERATION 2009 INFORMATION
(aka Black Graduation)
Bridging our past with our present, the African American Cultural Celebration (a.k.a. Black Graduation or BG) serves as traditional rites of passage that recognizes and affirms students of African descent who have completed a rigorous journey through academia at USC. This largely attended and highly anticipated event unites students, families, and friends through culture and achievement. An outstanding speaker is chosen each year who insights words of wisdom, encouragement and adoration to the audience allowing all participants to evaluate their life experiences and empowers them to reach all future endeavors. The ceremony is traditionally held on the Thursday evening before USC commencement, honoring undergraduate, graduate and professional school students.
REGISTRATION:
Starting on Monday, October 6th you will have the opportunity to register to participate in the African American Cultural Celebration.
**Keep in mind there is NO COST to participate in the celebration**
Registration means that you will ONLY participate in the 2009 African American Cultural Celebration. It is FREE to participate in the African American Cultural Celebration on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 8:00 pm in Bovard Auditorium.

GRADUATION RECOGNITION DINNER - WEDNESDAY, MAY 13th

The BG Souvenir Book will be distributed at the dinner. PLEASE NOTE: The Recognition Dinner is ONLY for those graduates who paid their BG DUES!!!
GRADUATION SHOUT-OUT SUBMISSIONS
Each graduate will have the opportunity to send a special shout-out that Corliss (yes, she will be there) will read as you walk across the stage at Black Graduation. Deadline is May 4th at 12noon.
GRADUATION A LA CART MENU ITEMS
- Black Grad DVD - $20 early bird special which ends May 8th; Regular price will be $30 from May 9th to July 31st.
- Black Grad Kente Sash - $30, limited amount available and only available on a first come, first pay basis.
- Black Grad Souvenir Booklet - $15, limited amount available and only available on a first come, first pay basis.

GRADUATION PLATFORM GUEST REGISTRATION
Please download the Honored Platform Guest Form. Fax the completed form to the Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs (CBCSA) at 213-740-3298 by Friday, May 8, 2009. You will be recognized at the ceremony just before the presentation of the graduates.
DUES INFORMATION:
Each registered graduating student who PAYS BG DUES will receive the following:
- RESERVED SEATING TICKETS to the BG ceremony for your guests (no. of tickets TBD)
- 1 BLACK GRAD 2009 SOUVENIR BOOK & the opportunity to have your photo posted with the graduating class
- 1 SPECIALLY DESIGNED USC CLASS OF 2009 KENTI SASH
- Black Grad Recognition Dinner: GRADUATING STUDENT plus two (2) guests
- Free Admission to the 2009 Black Graduation After Party
BLACK GRADUATION 2009 SOUVENIR AD BOOK INFORMATION
Want to give a shout-out to your graduating friend? Do your parents want to give a shout out to express how proud they are of you? Does your organization want to commend a student leader for a job well done? Then submit an ad in the Souvenir Ad Book that will be distributed at the Recognition Dinner. The Souvenir Book will also include pictures of each registered participant.
Payment for the Ad Book will began February 2nd and end on April 10th. There will be no exceptions due to time constraints to print the ad book, so please submit your payment and information on time! More information regarding prices and ad sizes are forthcoming.
DATES TO KEEP IN MIND:
Week of March 9, 2009 – Souvenir Book Photo
Dates and times to be determined
Each graduating student will have the opportunity to have their photo taken for the 2009 Souvenir Book. Also each graduating student will have an opportunity to be apart of the 2009 Video Montage. This will be shown exclusively at the 2009 Recognition Dinner on May 13, 2009.
**Your photo and participation in the video are FREE for ALL registered participants!!!**
Monday, May 11th - Mandatory Rehearsal
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
All students who plan to participate in the 2009 Celebration MUST attend. Graduates who paid BG Dues will receive their reserve tickets & BG Sash at the mandatory rehearsal.
Wednesday, May 13th – African American Cultural Celebration Recognition Dinner
