Undergraduate Funding Sources

As an undergraduate student organization, there are several USG funding sources you qualify for.  Undergraduate student organizations also qualify for Additional Funding, and, if you’re an undergraduate organization cosponsoring an event with a graduate student organization, you may be eligible for funding through GPSS too—don’t forget to check!

Undergraduate Funding Sources:

Please note that reimbursements are not permitted from any funding source (except URSC, see Additional Resources for more information).  Funding boards are not accepting requests for FedEx Kinko's.  Student Organizations may use University Graphics in the UV for their copying needs.

Undergraduate Student Government Funding

Discretionary Fund
The Discretionary Fund was established to fund programming events by recognized student organizations which do not fall under an umbrella assembly in Program Board. It is the board's goal to sponsor entertaining, cultural, and/or educational events which cater to the entire student body.

Student organizations may apply for up to $4200 per semester. In order to receive funding, the student organization must be officially recognized and the proposed event must occur on campus. All applications for funding are due by 5:00 pm two days prior to the board's meeting, at least four weeks in advance of the proposed event. A line item budget and invoices for each item must also be included with the application. Fundraisers will not receive funding.
Some examples of events that have been funded in the past are:

  • New/North Building Governments - Mardi Gras
  • Big Game Hunters Sketch Comedy - "Shot Through the Heart"
  • SCALE - Organizing Effectively to Stop Exploitation
  • Health Business Association - Start up Funds

Discretionary Fund is located in the USG Office, STU 106.  Please contact Kelsey Ford, the Director of the Discretionary Fund, at discfund@usc.edu with any further questions.

This is an Undergraduate Student Government funded initiative and only undergraduate student organizations are eligible for this funding.

Discretionary-Leadership Development Fund
The USG Discretionary-Leadership Development Fund provides support for student organizations engaging in leadership development and recognition.  Among the items funded in past years are attendance at conferences, seminars, and workshops; organization of leadership retreats; and awards for leadership.  Airfare and food are considered luxury items and are approved only if necessary and vital for the event.

Student organizations may apply for up to $3,834 of funding in a single academic year.  It is recommended to apply for funding early, especially for conferences and other events occurring during the summer, as funds can and do run out. A line item budget and invoices for each item must also be included with the application. Fundraisers will not receive funding.

Some examples of events funded in the past are:

  • Troy Camp - Leadership Retreat
  • Future Women CEO Speaker Series
  • LACI (Non-Profit Consulting) - Leadership Retreat
  • Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance - National Women's Leadership Conference

Discretionary-Leadership Development Fund is located in the USG office, STU 106. Please contact Liz Trower, Director of the Discretionary-Leadership Development Fund, at leadfund@usc.edu with any further questions.

Philanthropy Fund
USC Philanthropy Fund seeks to sponsor hands-on community service projects, giving preference to projects directly servicing the local community around the University Park and Health Science campuses.  The actual activity funded must also directly involve a university-recognized undergraduate organization.

Student organizations are eligible to receive up to $5,408 in a given academic year for their projects. All applications for funding are due at least four weeks in advance of the proposed event. A line item budget and invoices for each item must also be included with the application. Fundraisers will not receive funding.
Some examples of events funded in the past are:

  • Alpha Gamma Omega - "AGO Arcade," a benefit for the Invisible Children Foundation
  • URSC - Battle of the Cans

Professional Fund
The Professional Fund provides funding for events sponsored by campus organizations that allow students to meet with professionals from various fields, build career and interview skills, and explore internship opportunities.
Student organizations are eligible to receive up to $2,000 in a given academic year from the professional fund.  All applications for funding are due at least four weeks in advance of the proposed event. A line item budget and invoices for each item must also be included with the application. Fundraisers are not eligible to receive funding.
