USC offers one of the best collegiate educations in the country. First year students can begin feeling the fever from the moment their collegiate career begins. Tailgates right on campus, outstanding athletic programs, and a long list of spirit organizations just barely scrape the surface of what it means to be a Trojan.
CONQUEST!
CONQUEST! began in 2004 as a way to bring together athletics, academics, school spirit and traditions in the week leading up to the USC-UCLA football game. It is described as the one event that exemplifies all of the unique attributes of USC. A fireworks display, bonfire, and concert are typical components of the program.
To find more information regarding past CONQUEST! performers and events, visit the Campus Activities website at http://www.usc.edu/ca/.
Heritage Hall
Heritage Hall, which sits in the middle of the University of Southern California campus, houses the University's athletic department and celebrates the glorious Trojan athletic heritage. USC has produced 359 Olympic athletes, won 105 national team championships and developed 50 NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients.
Between the north and south wings on the building's ground level are some of USC's numerous athletic trophies, including various NCAA team championships, 7 Heisman Trophies and the jerseys of Troy's winners (Mike Garrett, O.J. Simpson, Charles White, Marcus Allen, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, and Reggie Bush), swimmer John Naber's Sullivan Award, Angela Williams' Honda-Broderick Cup and updated displays honoring recent successful Trojan athletes. There are also busts of USC athletic directors Willis O. Hunter and Jess Hill, football coaches Howard Jones and John McKay, and track coach Dean Cromwell, as well as actor John Wayne (who played football at USC in the 1920s under his real name, Marion Morrison).
Heritage Hall's upper level is the home to many administrative and coaches' offices (located on the south "Jess Hill Wing" and north "John McKay Wing," respectively). The underground lower level of Heritage Hall houses various locker rooms, plus the equipment room, medical training room, the Jess Hill Weight Room, and the McAlister Academic Resource Center (which features tutoring, counseling, study, and computer rooms for USC's student-athletes).
Homecoming
Homecoming is an annual event that brings students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents together to celebrate the Trojan Spirit. Different campus entities come together to bring forth the homecoming parade, a free concert, different tailgates, and spirit competitions, along with the traditional parent event. The week’s events culminate in a home football game in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
To learn more about Homecoming, please visit the Campus Activities website in the fall semester for a complete list of events.
USC Song Leaders
Also known world-wide as the USC Song Girls, the Song Leaders play an important role in the spirit and pride of USC. They perform at numerous events, including rallies, alumni functions, weddings, and sporting events such as basketball, football, and volleyball. Resplendent in their white uniforms, cardinal and gold pom-poms at their sides, the Song Leaders have an unmistakable presence.
Tryout Week takes place annually in late October or early November. Approximately nine to twelve girls will be chosen and begin practicing immediately for basketball season.
Spirit Boxes
The Official Trojan Spirit Box is a must have for any real Trojan fan! The box contains the student designed spirit shirt along with plenty of information about athletic events, campus activities, spirit information, and items from departments/offices across campus.
The funds raised from the sale of the boxes are used to support student spirit activities and events such as student homecoming activities including the rally, CONQUEST!, and the Order of the Torch. Each year there is a limited supply of Spirit Boxes, so don’t be caught without yours! Visit The Official Trojan Spirit Box Website to order, or visit the office of Campus Activities in Hazel & Stanley Hall (HSH100).
Spirit Leaders
SC Spirit Leaders are the newest spirit group that leads cheers at USC athletic events. The primary responsibility of SC Spirit Leaders is to interact with the crowd and encourage auditorium participants in support of the team. If you are at an athletic game, rally or any other USC-sponsored event and need to know what to yell, the squad will be there to help you out. The group expects to develop that SC connection with the crowd, promote USC Spirit, and introduce a new tradition!
The Spirit of Troy, the Trojan Marching Band
Since it’s beginnings in 1880, the University of Southern California Trojan Marching Band has become the largest spirit organization on campus. The Spirit of Troy consists of 275 student musicians and auxiliaries representing 60 fields of undergraduate and graduate studies.
Because of its unique marking, its sound, and its relationship with one of the premier athletic programs in the country, the TMB has built a reputation as “The Greatest Marching Band in the History of the Universe” through frequent Intercollegiate Bowl appearances, three Super Bowls, and countless Hollywood films and TV appearances.

Tommy Trojan
In the center of the USC campus stands one of the most famous collegiate landmarks in the country: Tommy Trojan. Since being unveiled in 1930 for USC’s 50th jubilee, the statue of the bronzed Trojan warrior has served not only as a popular meeting place on campus, but as a symbol of the university’s fighting spirit.
Inscribed on the statue’s base is “THE TROJAN” and the university’s seal, with the Latin motto “Palmam qui meruit ferat (Let him who deserves it bear away the palm).” Below the seal are inscribed the qualities of the ideal Trojan: “Faithful, Scholarly, Skillful, Courageous and Ambitious.”
Tommy Trojan—Basketball Mascot
The 2002 Basketball season saw the debut of a new addition to the USC Spirit Squad. Based on the famous bronze statue that stands at the center of USC campus, TOMMY TROJAN started strutting his stuff, flexing his muscles, waving his flag, and showing his victory sign to support USC Athletics during the spring and summer months. This energetic and lively mascot continues working with the USC Song and Yell Leaders and Trojan Marching Band to keep Trojan Spirit alive and well at Men's and Women's Basketball games, community service events (such as Spirits in Action), and at media events on ESPN and FoxSportsNet.
Traveler
Traveler, the noble white horse that appears at all USC home football games with a Trojan warrior astride, is one of the most famous college mascots.
Traveler not only appears at Trojan home football games (and even at some away games, including the 1995 Cotton Bowl in Dallas, the farthest Traveler has traveled), but also at other Trojan events, as well as at grade and high schools, charity functions and parades (including the past 40 Rose Parades). Traveler has also appeared on screen (including "The Battle of the Gunfighter" and "Snowfire"), on stage (including the Long Beach Ballet's "Nutcracker Ballet"), and in commercials.
Trojan Dance Force
The Trojan Dance Force, comprised of 15-18 dancers, competes at national collegiate competitions, performs at all USC men’s and women’s basketball games, USC philanthropic events and student admission functions, makes TV entertainment appearances, and much more! For more information visit http://usctrojans.cstv.com/trads/usc-trojan-dance-force.html.

Trojan Spirit Code
Please encourage friends and family to honor our championship team by upholding the Trojan tradition of good sportsmanship. Alcohol is no longer permitted inside of the Coliseum on game day. Remember that you are responsible for your actions and how they may affect other fans and athletes, as well as the University.
Obey all rules and regulations as set forth by the University.
Join in the Trojan Spirit by supporting all student athletes and their commitment to academic and athletic excellence.

Never forget the ideals of a Trojan – ambitious, courageous, skillful, scholarly, and faithful. Always do your best to live up to the high standards of the Trojan Family.
Send a positive message to our opponents about USC, our teams, students, and fans wherever USC is playing.
