Because USC strives to instill within students the necessary skills to be the leaders of tomorrow, programs such as study abroad provide students with invaluable personal and professional growth. These programs provide an opportunity to be immersed into another culture, experience other institutions of higher learning both domestic and international, and work alongside today’s leaders to shape the future of the United States. Though first year students may not be eligible to participate in these programs, awareness is imperative to ensure they take advantage of these opportunities later in their collegiate careers.
Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Exchange Program
The Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs (CBCSA) offers an exchange program with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) for a semester or full academic year. Because Los Angeles lacks a Historically Black College or University, the HBCU Exchange Program gives students a chance to study and experience college life at a historically black college or university.
For more information regarding the program, please contact the CBCSA office at (213)740-8257 or email cbcsa@usc.edu
USC International Fellows Internship Program
The USC International Fellows Internship Program encourages exploration of international work experience in Asia. The Program is open to U.S. citizens of all majors and it provides stipends for USC undergraduates (Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors graduating in December) to live and work in Asia for eight to ten weeks during the summer. In the past six years, students who have participated in the program have interned in Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan among others. Typically, selected interns are excellent students with outstanding university involvement and are placed in internship positions based on interests, skills, and organizational fit.
Please contact the USC Career Planning & Placement Center at (213)740-9111 or careers@usc.edu for more information on this program.
Office of Overseas Studies
The Office of Overseas Studies participates in over fifty programs throughout the Americas, Asia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Studying abroad for a semester or year is one of the best ways to understand different cultures and can have a profound impact academically, personally, and professionally. Students who study abroad gain a perspective of the world beyond the United States. Students of all majors should consider these programs as part of their collegiate experience.
