The successful integration of first year students is vital to their success in higher education. Research shows students who learn to navigate through the university and utilize its resources are more likely to persist, tend to be more satisfied with their institution and earn their degrees at a faster rate. As a result, F15 has identified fifteen thematic areas that aim to create awareness of university programs and resources. Because each student has different and unique needs, these areas provide students with opportunities to choose programs based on their areas of interest. The Freshman 15 thematic areas are:
- Academic Engagement
- Academic Services
- Alcohol/Substance Abuse
- Anxiety and Mental Health
- Beyond USC
- Career Exploration
- Campus Safety
- Cultural Awareness
- Civic Engagement
- Financial and Debt Management
- Getting Involved
- Health/Wellness
- Leadership Development
- Service
- Trojan Spirit
The programs listed within each of the thematic areas represent the array of resources USC offers to first year students. With the exception of a small number of programs restricted only to freshman students, transfer students can take advantage of all services. Along the description of each program, contact information for the sponsoring department or campus unit is also provided.
