Since 1991, the Connections! APA Mentoring Program has been one of APASS’ flagship programs. Connections! pairs Asian American and Pacific Islander undergraduates with alumni and other professionals in constructive mentoring relationships, focused on career exploration and development. In addition, the program offers a mentoring relationship that is cognizant of the specific challenges and opportunities Asian Pacific Americans encounter in the workplace, complemented by skill-building workshops and community engagement opportunities over the course of the academic year.

As one of the largest APASS programs, Connections! reaches over 170 participants every year. While our mentees, or student participants, come from various areas of campus and represent diverse undergraduate programs, our mentors also come from diverse professions. Mentors in our Trojan Family volunteer their time to enhance the student's efforts in exploration.

At the beginning of the academic year, all applicants attend an orientation further outlining the program, and then complete an application which gives the Connections! Staff a profile of the student's interests, career goals, and expectations of the program.

In mid-September, the Match Night Mixer brings together mentors and mentees to identify suitable matches. When the right match is made, both parties are notified of the match, which signals the beginning of their one-on-one relationship. The Kick-Off Reception in mid-October brings the mentor-mentee pairs together for the first time, to engage in goal-setting and conversation.

In addition to the one-on-one mentoring relationship, the program offers participants skill-building workshops, site visits, community service days, and more.
