New York Times Bestselling Author, Marisa de los Santos, to Speak in Historic Filipinotown

Temple St., Los Angeles Hosted by: Filipino American Heritage Institute Marisa de los Santos, a nationally recognized Filipina American author of the bestsellers Belong To Me and Love Walked In will be featured at a Filipino American Library (FAL) Book Launch in Historic Filipinotown on Friday, May 30 at 7:00pm at Remy’s on Temple (2126 W. Temple St., Los Angeles). The event marks the author’s first visit to this area of Los Angeles that has most recently experienced political and economic renaissance since Filipinos first settled here in the early 20th century. The author will read and sign copies of her latest novel Belong to Me which will be on sale that evening. Light fare and valet parking are available. The Filipino American Heritage Institute (FAHI) is a non-profit organization committed to maximizing resources, private collections, donations and volunteers to ensure the preservation and access to historic and modern Filipino and Filipino American literature facilitate individual and community service. FAL, a division of FAHI, is open Mondays-Fridays 1:00-5:00pm and by appointment. FAL Book Launches are held regularly in Historic Filipinotown venues, such as the Remy’s on Temple Art Gallery, where Ms. De los Santos will be featured. Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos is a stirring and sophisticated novel of love, hope, loss, and family. It explores what happens when leaps of faith and twists of fate collide with our carefully constructed outward images. |

FAL Children's Reading Event -
May 31, 2008, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Location: Carson Regional Library (151 E. Carson St.) Hosted by: Filipino American Heritage Institute The first and largest Filipino library in the country continues to share Filipino children’s books to families around Greater Los Angeles. Through its new Children’s Reading Program and with the co-sponsorship of the County of Los Angeles Public Library , the Filipino American Library (FAL) will have its next two events on Saturday, May 31 at Carson Regional Library ( 151 E. Carson St. ) and Saturday, June 7 at Artesia Library ( 18722 S. Clarkdale Ave. ) They will both be held from 2:00-4:00pm and are recommended for children ages 5-10. The FAL Children’s Reading Program promotes the value of diversity to children in Greater Los Angeles through the reading of Filipino children’s books. The May 31 event in Carson will feature the Filipino folktale The Monkey and the Turtle and the June 7 event in Artesia will highlight the theme of “handing down through generations.” Admission is free and donations are accepted. Snacks and drinks will be provided. The program is coordinated by Celeste B. Diaz, the FAL Children’s Librarian, and funded by grants from Wal-Mart and Citigroup Foundation. |
