»SCHEDULE AN SCP APPOINTMENT ONLINE«

Students accepted to the University of Southern California have made outstanding achievements in high school. The Structured Curriculum Program (SCP) acknowledges these accomplishments and the challenge students might face in maintaining this level of success as they acclimate to college life.  SCP provides structured support designed specifically for new USC students.

Academic support counselors meet regularly with students throughout the semester (approximately 2-3 times) and provide the following services:

  • Semester progress counseling and monitoring
  • Guidance on how to balance academic and personal lives successfully
  • Assistance with any difficulties students may be experiencing
  • Referrals to appropriate tutoring and other campus resources
  • Advice on how best to approach faculty and staff for assistance

Education Psychology 110: Motivation and Learning Strategies
The curriculum component of SCP consists of one 4-unit course that students are required to take during one of the semesters of their first year, an Educational Psychology course titled “Motivation and Learning Strategies” (EDPT-110).
The course is designed to:

  • Apply cognitive psychology and motivation theory to improve students' learning in different academic disciplines
  • Translate students’ study habits to be applied successfully to college-level curriculum
  • Guide students in a self-examination of their academic strengths and weaknesses
  • Assist students in fine-tuning their time management skills
  • Strengthen students’ overall ability to take better charge of their academic success

Other than EDPT-110, SCP students take the same general education and major course requirements as all university students.  EDPT-110 counts toward graduation in the “elective” category of classes.

SCP is designed to be a 2-year program, though some students meet the completion requirements early and some later. Please see the SCP Enrollment Agreement for further details.
