Disability Services and Programs (DSP)
Survey for Faculty and Staff

What best describes your status?
I have read through and understand the information that DSP has made available online.

DSP registered students do a good job of sharing and discussing their accommodation needs with me early in the semester.

DSP staff members do a good job of answering my questions and concerns promptly.

I am satisfied with the work that DSP does.

It would be beneficial if DSP came to my department for a presentation or discussion.

Questions Related to Test Accommodations
There are essentially four different testing models that allow universities to successfully accommodate exam needs for DSP registered students.

1. Faculty and Departments are responsible for accommodating all exam needs. (Boston University)
2. Faculty and Departments accommodate the students needing only extra time and Disability Services handles the exams with additional needs. (Stanford, Wisconsin)
3. Disability Services has a location that allows it to accommodate all exams for DSP registered students. (Arizona)
4. A testing service proctors all exams for all students and those needing extra accommodations receive them through the testing service. (Harvard)

I believe that everyone would benefit if USC identified and followed one of these testing models.

The best testing model for USC is…

Note-taking Accommodation questions
DSP has created a new online system for note-takers to upload notes. Professors and TA’s, as well as eligible DSP registered students, will be able to view these notes. This system will be launched in time for the spring 2008 semester.

The ability to view these notes as well as see which students are posting them will benefit faculty.

The new system will ask faculty and departments to find at least one student to upload their notes for courses with note-taking as an expected component of the class, particularly when there is an eligible DSP student in need of notes.

This is a reasonable request considering the benefits of the system for faculty, TA, and DSP registered students.
