HSC Fitness Center

The HSC Fitness Center first opened its doors in August, 2011. It is one of the newest additions to the University's enhancement of the quality of campus life.


Located in the 2001 Soto Street Building, the 10,000-square-foot HSC Fitness Center houses a variety of cardiovascular and strength training equipment, two group exercise rooms, locker rooms, towel service, and day-use lockers. Jump ropes, yoga mats, weight belts, and basketballs.


Adjacent to the fitness center, a lighted basketball court and multi-purpose area (with amphitheatre) is available for drop-in use, Intramural Sports programs, and special reservations.

   Mon- Fri: 6am - 8pm 

Sat: 9am - 1pm

Sun: Closed

Membership at either the HSC Fitness Center or Lyon Center (UPC) gives members access to both facilities. However, please note that a special "access" application and Proxy USC ID card are necessary to enter the HSC Fitness Center. This process also applies to current Lyon Center members who plan to utilize the HSC Fitness Center.


Students must complete the Facility Waiver online and register for free gym access at the HSC Fitness Center Membership Services desk for building access. *Fitness center membership fees apply to Staff, Faculty, Alumni, and Guests.


Dress Code Policy:
The following dress code is in effect for all users of USC Recreational Sports facilities. Appropriate workout attire and athletic footwear is required at all times during recreation. Sandals, flip flops, boots, black-soled shoes, jeans, scrubs, and any pants with buttons or hardware (zippers/rivets) are PROHIBITED. 


Lost and Found:
USC Recreational Sports is not responsible for lost or stolen items. All patrons are encouraged to protect their personal property by using lockers and limiting valuable items brought to the Lyon Center, HSC fitness Center, and any of our other recreational facilities.
Patrons who find lost items are asked to bring them to the HSC Fitness Center Membership Services Staff. Lost and found items will be held at the UPC Lyon Center or HSC Fitness Center offices for a period of 10 business days, after that period the items will be sent to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) where you may inquire about lost and found items during the following times: Monday- Friday from 8am-6pm.


HSC Fitness Center Access:
All students utilizing the HSC Fitness Center are required to complete an online general waiver form which is valid for entry at the Lyon Center as well.


  • All students should allow 24 hrs. for the waiver to become activated in the system.
  • All students must apply for building access at the HSC Fitness Center front desk . Special USC Proxy ID cards are required for entry into the building and fitness center at all times.
Facility use is restricted to authorized USC Students, Faculty, Staff, and Guests.


Guests/Alumni will be issued a Guest Access Proxy Card for access to the HSC Facility. A $10 deposit is required for each card and the deposit will be returned upon return of the card.
Unauthorized, counterfeit, or expired ID’s will be confiscated and privileges may be revoked. Any student or participant who has his/her card confiscated for misuse of their ID must pay a $20 retrieval fine and may be referred to the Student Judicial Affairs and Community Standards Office for additional discipline.
USC Recreational Sports reserves the right to refuse service to any participant who violates any policy or procedure, engages in any verbal and/or physical abuse of any other patron and/or any individual whose behavior is inappropriate or in violation of the University rules and regulations.

*Note from USC Transportation: Soto Gold permit will allow you to park during business hours(8-5) in the Soto Lot, and at:


  • HSC – San Pablo lot on a space available basis
  • UPC – Any Structure (PSA, PSB, etc) on a space available basis
Due to being sold out and high-demand, parking in the Biggy Structure at HSC is subject to citation with a Soto Gold permit. After (and before) hours, any valid USC-permit can park in any (non-reserved and public) usc-parking lot or structure, unless signs are posted to the contrary.
